Susan
Susan Horvat is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in both California and Minnesota and a DBT - Linehan Board Certified Clinician™. She earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology and her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Arts and Literature from St. Cloud State University.
Susan has completed trainings in Linehan Risk Assessment and Management Protocol (LRAMP), Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Good Psychiatric Management for Borderline Personality Disorder, Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC). She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) through EMDR Institute, Inc., an EMDRIA-approved program founded by EMDR creator Francine Shapiro, PhD. Susan completed her intensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) training with Annie McCall, MA, LMHC and former President and CEO of Behavioral Tech, Dr. Shari Manning.
Seasoned in a variety of mental health settings ranging from nonprofit community mental health to private-sector treatment programs, Susan specializes in treating adults with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and has extensive experience working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, dissociation and complex / developmental trauma. Utilizing a mindful, strengths-based and collaborative approach, her therapeutic style is warm, steadfast, nonjudgmental and optimistic.
Susan owns a private practice in Southern California and provides outpatient individual therapy and group therapy via telehealth.
